Dr. Prasanth Ariyannur completed his MBBS in 2002 from Government Medical College, Trivandrum Kerala. After his MBBS, he started his human biology and life science research career as a research fellow at Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology under Dr. R. V. Omkumar. There he got training in mass spectrometry and proteomic analysis. Soon he went to the National Institute of Health at Bethesda Maryland USA for a Masters Program in Clinical Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2004. Then, he worked in neurobiology lab under at National Institute of Mental Health and subsequently at the Walter Reed Army Medical Institute/ Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences at Bethesda, Maryland USA, where he worked mostly in neurobiology under Dr. Aryan Namboodiri. During the twelve years of his work, he made significant contribution to neurobiology field, including the characterization and identification of Aspartate N-acetyltransferase enzyme from mammalian brain. Subsequently cloned, expressed the gene (NAT8L) and made transgenic knockout animal model and studied the behavioral and biochemical characteristic of gene knock out model. From the identification NAT8L he also studied the role of NAA in methamphetamine addiction and nucleus accumbens and other dopaminergic centers of the brian. Other significant projects included the characterization and central nervous location of Acetyl CoA short chain fatty acid synthetase type 2 (Acss2) and type 1 isoenzymes in mammalian brain. Studied the role of short chain fatty acid acetyl CoA in neuroenergetics and the role of N-acetylaspartate (NAA) in “mini citric acid cycle” and association of that in ATP generation in traumatic brain injury model.

Dr. Prasanth brought in a confluence of expertise in clinical as well as basic biochemical knowledge for high demands molecular biology techniques tailor made for somatic mutation analysis and its clinical interpretation in the field of molecular oncology. He initiated many newer and custom made sensitive tests as diagnostic tests to bring quality as well as affordability. As a team effort, with the onco-pathologists, oncologists, professional commercial laboratories, he has been introducing many tests essential for the diagnosis, management and therapeutics of cancer disorders.
