AHEAD 2017

Amrita Head and Neck Oncology Teaching Program 2017

Venue : Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi
Date : 17,18,19 February 2017
AHEAD 2017, the Amrita Head and Neck Oncology Teaching Program is a 3-day course designed to cover the entire range of important topics in head and neck oncology through didactic short lectures and interactive discussions. 
The faculty is selected from experienced teachers, university examiners and noted head and neck surgeons from across the country. 
The discussions are designed to focus on issues pertinent to post graduate examinations. There will be sessions for surgical videos where common surgical procedures will be demonstrated and discussed. OSCE at the end of the course.(Limited seats for OSCE).

Fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology(FGILPath)

This is a 2 year Fellowship program aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the spectrum of adult and paediatric gastrointestinal, pancreatic and hepatobiliary pathology and to competently handle issues that arise in routine and specialty/referral practice.

The objectives are enumerated below :

  1. To increase knowledge and experience in neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases that primarily or secondarily affect the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and liver in both adult and paediatric patients.
  2. To strengthen diagnostic skills in gastrointestinal and liver pathology by interpreting histological findings in the light of clinical presentation and laboratory data and with the full awareness of the potential clinical impact of the diagnosis and differentials.
  3. To independently evaluate intraoperative consultations.
  4. To gain exposure in transplant pathology.
  5. To understand the utility of ancillary techniques available for the accurate assessment and diagnosis in the field of gastrointestinal and liver pathology, such as special histological stains, immunohistochemistry and molecular studies.
  6. To gain experience in FNA cytology of liver and pancreas.
  7. To understand the role of molecular science for disease characterisation, prognostication and therapeutic benefits.
  8. To develop an appreciation of the multidisciplinary team approach to the treatment of patients with these diseases.
  9. To enhance teaching abilities through interaction with pathology trainees, students and clinicians.
  10. To gain experience in research techniques, write up research protocols and utilize these techniques to complete research projects.

Essential : Post - graduate training in pathology (MD / DNB)
Desirable : Demonstration of interest in GI Pathology
Duration of Program : 24 months
